AOL has apparently decided to shut down their webhosting service. Without notice. So the Fantasy Theater homepage has gone "poof". Yay. At least I had all the files backed up.

Ah well, I've been meaning to get a "real" URL for ages anyway. Anyone have recommendations for a good, cheap, and easy-to-use webhosting service?

I can recommend either DreamHost.com or EasyWebPublishing.com

I did wonder why I couldn't find your page this morning. I catch up on your webcomics on Saturdays.

Thanks!

The webcomics are on a different host, so they shouldn't be affected:

Try Gushi -- http://hosting.gushi.org/
It's $6 a month or $60 a year, with about a $10 fee if you want a domain name too.

Along with it comes free email, a gig of space, and the ability to survive a good stomping -- if you ever get hit with several thousand views all at once. Plus various other stuff listed on the site.

Thank you! I will check it out.

Eh, it's probably for the best. I've been limping along with AOL for years just because it was easy and familiar (I hate change!). I think they're on their last legs anyway -- their niche as the one-stop "Internet for Dummies" is slowly eroding as people get more familiar and comfortable with the web. I'll be surprised if they're still around (in any recognizable form) a few years from now.

Their "AOL Press" was the best free webpage building program for a long time too, in my opinion. I still have a copy. Several actually, on various CDs, since I used to use it so often.

I still have warm fuzzy feelings toward AOL in general, as like most people, it was my introduction to the web.

And yeah, you're probably right.

https://www.lunarpages.com/ is where the SPS is hosted. I'm pleased with them.
