| If you find me dead with a battleflag of Virginia stuffed in my mouth you'll know why |

Over the past few days I've had some unpleasant encounters over the interwebs. Nothing major, just your run of the mill stuff. One of them is troubling because it was more or less my own fault. I posted a snarky comment on someone's YouTube video and they offered a chilly but nonetheless polite response which only called attention to my jerkiness. They had already deleted my comment, but I did send them a message apologizing (as an aside, they also posted an obnxious comment on one of my videos in response, but that doesn't excuse my original post). The other one was right here on the LJ. In a rather old posting I mentioned something like the South got what it deserved in the American Civil War. The anonymous poster said "suck a cock you pompous ass. the aggressor of the civil war was the north, backwards moron. LOLZ." It does make me wonder how this person came across this entry months after I posted it and I was more amused by it than anything else. Living in New York I thankfully forget that some people take this confederacy crap very seriously. It just sort of reminded me of my general rule about the internet: don't say virtually say something you wouldn't say to someone in person. It's not foolproof, of course (and exceptions can be made for reviews I will grudgingly concede...) but it would drastically cut down on the amount of needless uncivility.
